One-day programme in Béda-Karapancsa (The programme elements can be chosen and mixed freely)
During the tour we can get to know the Béda-Karapancsa region of the Danube-Drava National Park, which comprises some of the significant habitats of the South Hungarian reach of the Danube. 9:00: Visit in the Mohács Historic Memorial Park The graveyard established at the place of the Battle of Mohács on August 29 1526 can be visited near Sátorhely. The park is the last resting-place of more than 1700 soldiers. Besides the gravemarks, the procession of the battle, reconstructed historically, can be followed until its tragic end. The inhabitants of Kölked, a settlement near Mohács, have lived together with the storks for centuries. In the settlement near the Danube floodplain the White Storks have always had a secure nesting and feeding place. The White Stork Museum was established in 2002 setting up its exhibition only around one species, the White Stork. The study path leads from the edge of the strict protected Nagy-rét (Great-Meadow) to the Danube. With the help of the information boards and the guiding you can get to know the functioning of the floodplain and can get insight into the connection between floods and floodplain farming. The route passes the reconstructed Belestye-fok and leads through the restored stone bridge over the Ásás. You can get to know the wet meadows, and on the information boards even the process of wood rot is presented. Along the study path, on one of Hungary’s biggest floodplain pastures, the extensively farmed, protected and native Grey Cattle herd can be observed. 16:00: Canoeing on the Outer-Béda with a professional guide
During the special programme you will roam the Outer-Béda, the late main Danube branch in the Béda-Karapancsa region, in canoes, with a professional guide. With any luck you will meet some representants of the famous and vivid world of floodplain birds: Black Kites, Grey Herons and Common Kingfishers. Duration of the programme: 2 hours. Recommended equipment: comfortable clothes and shoes adapted to weather conditions, hat, sun protection. Life jacket and paddles are provided to the guests by the Directorate.
