Fekete Hill Nature Reserve

North of Szársomlyó lies the much lower Fekete Hill. Its bedrock is limestone, and its climate is less sub-Mediterranean than the southern side of the Villány Hills, due to a higher percentage of forest cover.

Butcher’s broom

In the clearings within the pubescent oak forest association there are orchids blooming in the spring, while the forest reveals the evergreen foliage of the butcher’s broom and the spineless butcher’s broom. Nearly 50 protected species have been recorded here so far.
Declared to be protected: 25/1997. (VIII. 1.) KTM r.
Size of the protected area: 94.6 ha
