Villány Templom Hill Nature Reserve

In the quarry of the area formerly known as Mészhegy, unique Jurassic and Pliocene-Pleistocene fossilic values can be seen in the rock face.

Villány Templom Hill Nature Reserve - quarry

The ammonite and vertebrate remains preserve the evolutionary history of tens of millions of years. Geological research activities have been carried out in the area since 1910, yielding 27 newly discovered animal species. Among the prehistoric vertebrates revealed here, wild horses and wolves having migrated from North America have also been found.
